A Run for Unity and Hope
On September 1st, 2024, the streets of Colombo came alive as the Indian Cultural Association (ICA) officially launched its first-ever International Half Marathon! Starting from the historic Galle Face Green, this landmark event positioned Sri Lanka as a premier global destination for sports and leisure.
With over 700 athletes from 20 countries, the morning was a vibrant celebration of health, camaraderie, and purpose. Whether they were professional runners chasing the Rs. 1,000,000 top prize or families enjoying a sunrise stroll, every participant ran for a cause supporting over 360 orphanages and raising awareness for organ donation.
Event Highlights:
- The Scenic Route: Runners soaked in the coastal beauty of Colombo, racing along Marine Drive, Galle Road, and through the bustling Colombo Fort.
- Something for Everyone: From the competitive 21.1km Half Marathon to the high-energy 10km Challengers Run and the joyful 5km Family Run.
- A Green Legacy: To symbolize a sustainable future, the event also featured a Na Tree planting initiative in local schools.
- Community Spirit: The finish line at Galle Face Green was a sea of cheers, medals, and shared triumph.
